Greatest Comebacks

Sometimes in Premier League football, teams can be victim to the comeback when their opposition finds some inspiration from nowhere to rescue a remarkable result.

Throughout the 28 years of Premier League football, there have been a host of comebacks which have captured the attention of supporters throughout the country. Here are some facts about the great comebacks.

  • Only one team (NEWCASTLE UNITED) has comeback from a four-goal margin to earn a result in a Premier League fixture. That came in February 2011 against Arsenal.
  • On 20 OCCASIONS, teams have comeback from a three-goal or four-goal deficit to get either a draw or a victory.
  • The first-ever three-goal comeback in Premier League history came on BOXING DAY. Manchester United trailed Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 in 1992 at Hillsborough but came back to draw 3-3.
  • The first team to recover from trailing 3-0 in a match to WIN a game were Leeds United. They beat Derby County from this position 4-3 in November 1997 at Elland Road.
  • West Bromwich Albion came from 5-2 to draw 5-5 in Sir Alex Ferguson’s FINAL-EVER game as a manager in May 2013.
  • On 67 occasions, a team has come from TWO GOALS down to earn either a draw or all three points in a Premier League match.
